This handcrafted wool felted purse or tote is a distinctive accessory made using traditional fiber art techniques. Each piece was created by the late artisan Jackie Hansen, with every bag being completely unique in its design. The process begins with hand-knitting 100% wool yarn, followed by machine felting in hot water to produce a thick, durable textile. The felted wool is then carefully shaped and blocked to form a structured, sculptural silhouette that holds its shape beautifully over time.

After drying, the wool becomes moisture-sensitive. It should not be soaked or washed in water. For care and cleaning, a lint roller is the preferred method to remove dust, hair, or threads. Spot cleaning may be done with a slightly damp cloth, applied gently to avoid overexposure to moisture.

Every purse is fully lined with pre-washed cotton or silk fabric, creating a smooth and protective interior. The base of the purse includes a removable foam core insert, reinforced with a layer of Plexiglas for added strength and structure. Magnetic snap closures are standard across all models, providing convenient and secure access to the bag’s contents. Purse feet on the bottom protect the fabric and help extend the bag’s longevity by preventing direct surface contact.

To maintain shape during storage, reposition the internal base to the side and lay the bag on its side. Before using it again, simply reset the base flat, adjust the lining, and gently fluff any decorative embellishments, such as ribbons or eyelash yarns on the exterior. Although the wool is labeled as moth-proofed, it’s advisable to include a few mothballs in a small, sealed container or bag inside the purse for additional protection during long-term storage.

Handle styles vary depending on the specific model. Some hand-carry purses feature wooden or polyester handles. Newer designs incorporate metal handles adorned with various beads, including some that resemble glass. These beads are positioned so that the most durable ones make contact with surfaces first. If replacement is needed, the handle rings can be opened to allow for bead changes.

Shoulder bags come equipped with leather straps, with certain designs including a decorative section made of solid stone beads. These beads are highly durable and resistant to breakage, combining functionality with a refined, tactile finish.
