Wool Felted Purse / Tote – Handmade, One-of-a-Kind by Jackie Hansen

This wool felted purse or tote is a handcrafted accessory designed by the late Jackie Hansen. Each bag is entirely unique, created through a careful process of hand-knitting 100% wool, machine-felting it in very hot water, and then blocking it into a lasting shape. The result is a durable, structured, and artistic piece, reflecting the beauty of fiber craftsmanship.

Once dry, the felted wool is no longer water-friendly. To clean the surface, it is recommended to use a lint roller to remove dust or stray fibers. If necessary, the purse can be gently wiped with a slightly damp cloth—never soaked or immersed in water.

Each purse is fully lined with pre-washed cotton or silk, offering a soft and clean interior. Inside, a removable foam core base is reinforced with Plexiglas to maintain shape and provide structural integrity. Magnetic snap closures ensure easy and secure access, and the purse feet at the bottom protect the base from contact with surfaces.

To preserve the bag’s form during storage, shift the internal base to the side and lay the bag on its side. When ready to use again, reposition the base flat and gently fluff the decorative exterior elements such as ribbons or eyelash yarns. Although the wool is labeled as moth-proofed, storing the bag with a few mothballs in a sealed container or pouch is advised for added protection.

Handle styles vary across the collection. Some hand-carry bags feature wooden or polyester handles, while newer designs use metal handles adorned with various beads. Certain Pandora-style beads may be glass but are arranged so that more durable beads touch hard surfaces first. The handles are detachable and can be opened to replace or reposition beads if needed.

Shoulder bag versions come with leather straps, and some feature decorative sections of solid stone beads known for their durability and resistance to breakage.
