This handcrafted felted wool purse or tote is a unique textile accessory originally designed by the late artisan Jackie Hansen. Each purse is one-of-a-kind, individually hand-knitted using pure wool and then machine-felted in very hot water to achieve a compact, durable fabric. After felting, the purse is carefully shaped and dried, resulting in a structured yet soft body that holds its shape beautifully over time.

The felting process creates a dense surface that is no longer water-friendly once dry. To care for the purse, avoid direct contact with water. Instead, use a lint roller to gently remove dust or stray threads. For occasional spot cleaning, a slightly damp cloth may be used with care—never soak or immerse the bag.

Every purse is fully lined with pre-washed cotton or silk fabrics for a clean, smooth interior. A removable foam core base sits at the bottom of the bag and is reinforced with a panel of Plexiglas, providing enhanced structural support and helping the purse maintain its form with repeated use. Magnetic snap closures ensure secure and convenient access to contents, and purse feet on the bottom help reduce wear when placed on surfaces.

Storage instructions are simple and designed to preserve the purse’s shape. When not in use, gently shift the internal base sideways and store the purse on its side. When ready to use again, return the base to its original position and lightly fluff the decorative yarns or ribbons on the exterior. The wool yarn used is labeled as moth-proofed, but for added protection, storing the purse with a small pouch or container of mothballs is recommended.

Handle styles vary between hand-carry and shoulder bag designs. Some hand-carry bags feature wooden or polyester handles, while newer models use metal handles adorned with a variety of decorative beads. Select handles may include glass-like Pandora-style beads, but these are positioned so that non-breakable beads are more likely to make contact with hard surfaces. The handles are removable and can be opened to replace or reposition beads if needed.
